Abstract
This statement for the record was submitted as part of the December 4, 2019 hearing by the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor entitled, “Growing Up in Fear: How the Trump Administration's Immigration Policies are Harming Children.” Consistent with conclusions from our April 2019 report, Beyond the Border: Family Separation in the Trump Era, in this statement UnidosUS argues that the anti-immigrant policies and political climate under the Trump Administration is jeopardizing the educational outlooks of an entire generation of American kids at risk. With 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 being of Latino heritage –nearly 95% U.S. citizens – the current immigration environment also threatens the long term health and vitality of the nation as a whole.
